We collect what we need, and nothing more
A parent's name and email, the child's first name and year group, and the results of each phonics session. That is the whole list. No third-party behavioural tracking. No data sold to anyone, ever.
No ads, ever, in the app or in emails
The children using Legible are four to eight years old. Their attention is not for sale.
No streaks, no badges, no fake rewards
Phonics is already rewarding when a child reads a word they could not read yesterday.
We check that sounds stay known
Children forget, and that is normal. A sound your child read confidently last month can quietly slip. Legible keeps a simple record for each sound and checks back over the following weeks, so 'learned' actually means 'kept'. It is the kind of one-to-one follow-up that no teacher with a class of thirty has time to do for every child.
How we stay free for the families who need it most
The phonics assessment is permanently free. We plan to charge a small family subscription for guided practice sessions after our pilot, so we never have to monetise children's attention to keep the app running.
Families on free school meals or other means-tested support will have free or reduced access. We are working out the mechanics of this honestly and will publish them before we start charging anyone.
